Lisa Moore

Bariatric Dietitian

BSC, Grad Dip (Dietetics), MDAA, APD, AN

Lisa divides her time between her work as owner and Senior Dietitian at her busy private practice, Nourish WA, and being the mother of an active and adventurous little boy. Born and raised in Perth, Lisa studied Dietetics at Curtin University before working in the Great Southern region of WA for several years. It was there that she got her taste for travel, so worked and travelled in a variety of locations around Australia and overseas. Lisa gained a broad range of dietetic experience working in both public and private hospitals, Indigenous communities, community healthcare centres and private practice.

In 2012, Lisa joined SJOG Hospital, Bunbury as their Senior dietitian. This is where she began working predominantly in the field of bariatric surgery with Dr Werapitiya. Lisa has extensive experience in helping people to prepare for and manage their sleeve gastrectomy, gastric bypass and SADI-S/SIPS surgeries. Lisa left SJOG in 2022 to start her private practice, Nourish WA, so that she can focus solely on the care of clients having bariatric surgery. She also mentors other dietitians and shares her expert knowledge with them, making sure that you are in the best of hands throughout your bariatric surgery journey and beyond.

dietician

The dietitian is one of the most important members of your bariatric surgery team. They will help you to prepare for your procedure and be your main support after surgery to help maximise your weight loss & maintain good nutritional health.

Following surgery, you will need to learn how to adapt your diet & eating behaviour to work with your new gastrointestinal system. The amount of food your stomach can hold after surgery is significantly less, and the way your body absorbs nutrients may change. A bariatric dietitian will help you to navigate all the changes your body is going through after surgery.

Dietitians are specialised healthcare professionals with university-level training in nutrition. Bariatric Dietitians have undergone further specialised training to assist people who are having weight loss/metabolic surgery.

When you work with a bariatric dietician, you will learn you how to change your eating habits to achieve your health & weight-related goals in a safe & healthy way. They will teach you how to listen to your body & follow your internal cues so that you can consume a wide variety of nutritious foods that your body needs to stay healthy & happy, just in smaller amounts. A bariatric dietitian will be your biggest support in helping you to undo any poor habits & unhealthy thoughts around food that you have built over a lifetime, and guide you to developing a more positive relationship with food.

Bariatric surgery can reduce your body’s ability to absorb nutrients from the food you eat, and your dietitian will develop an appropriate supplement regime for you, based on your individual requirements, to help you avoid nutritional deficiencies and malnutrition.

Your dietitian will support you in the weeks, months & years after your surgery. Dietitians are the best resource if you have questions about your diet after bariatric surgery, run into obstacles, or find that you are falling into old patterns of eating or thinking. Your dietitian can help you identify triggers that cause you to overeat or make poor food choices, which will affect your health or weight loss results.

A bariatric dietitian can guide you through your weight loss journey to maximise your weight & health outcomes, maintain your nutritional wellbeing & help you to develop a healthy & positive relationship with food for the rest of your life.
